The Gimhae National Museum specializes in Gaya Culture, displaying over 1,300 items, including
cart-shaped earthenware. More than 200 artifacts, representing the magnificent ancient culture of
the Gaya period, were preserved for the opening exhibition. The relics were mostly metal works,
such as gilt bronze, silver-ware, copper alloy, and iron-ware excavated from nearby tombs. The
preservation methods and techniques differ according to the conditions of each artifact. For
copper alloys, corrosion stability of the items was a key factor in deciding whether to preserve
or remove the corroded parts of the objects.

In the cases of iron-ware where the state had stabilized, foreign substances were removed to
restore the original shape, and anti-corrosive was applied to prevent corrosion. Where corrosion
was not stabilized, a two-step process of de-chlorination was conducted to remove the cause.
First, corroded objects were placed in a bath filled with 0.3M NaOH solution. Second, the item
underwent a filter-press de-chlorination using borax and distilled water. The laboratory supported
the manufacture of special stands and the modification of artifact models.
